I was exhausted when I woke up. I rolled over in bed and pulled the covers up to my neck. I opened my eyes slowly, cautiously as if I would damage them. I looked towards the window, wincing because the light was in my eyes. The previous day had been one of the best times of my school life till date.

        We laughed and laughed until there were tears flowing from ours eyes. I felt so joyous and happy! We held each others hands and tried to calm down, I never was good at being absolutely serious. I looked at her face and couldn't control  my laughter! The laughter began again! We would keep giggling until we gradually drifted of to sleep. We were best friends...we still are.
 
    You must think i'm crazy, right? Who is this girl with whom I spend so much time with? Who is the girl with whom I share my happiness, anger and disappointment! Tammi, do you remember when I used to call you Checha?? I was the bratty kid who always wanted what you had! You used play with me and talk to me and, we used to have so much fun! Don't get me wrong we still have fun, but, I feel that I share a stronger bond with you. I know that I can trust you and put all my faith in you! I know its been a long time since MUWCI but, personally, I thought you were a new person! You were confident and ready for anything! I had never felt more proud of you! You were better than ever!
 
    Remember those awkward and fun times when we used to wear mamma's heels and walk around the house? The time we tried to train Brusso (which by the way was a total fail)? We used to play dress-up right? Well, it was more of me trying to smother you with make-up! I had so much fun! Those times when you wanted to embarrass me by trying to show your affection in front of my friends!!!(i forgive you)

        As we grew up,we started to fight about petty things and argue. I would always wait for you to apologise,but eventually I would say sorry to you!(being the bigger person here)(kidding)We still have those talks in the night right before we drift of to sleep. We talk about everything and laugh and laugh until we feel sick! I'm looking forward to many many more of those nights! I love you Tammi! You'll always be #1 in my heart!

     

3 years from now, my life is bound to change. Hopefully for the better! I will step into 11th grade, ready for change....will I be ready? 

I was told to write an article about realizing the Indian dream by my teacher. That's when I got thinking. What was the dream? Wasn't it peace and harmony and brotherhood ? All I see now is hate, injustice, greed and war. Well, that's my opinion. I'm just a 12 year old speaking my mind.

If you ask me, after the independence of our country, what have we really achieved? Have we achieved something glorious? No. There is nothing glorious in hatred. Nowadays, every time my dad turns to the news channel, I watch in awe at the amount of deaths, crimes and blasts . If this was what the nation was striving for, it has succeeded.

As I witnessed the 27/11 attacks unfold on the television screen, a part of me kept thinking that things were going to get better. No! That's not possible! It may sound like I am criticizing my nation, but its true! It just kept getting worse. People were killed and children were shot dead. I felt disgusted. So if anyone were to ever ask me about realizing some kind of "dream", I would suggest myself to give them a piece of my mind. The dream was never realized.

Imagine you are homeless .write about a day in your life.(fictional)


I turned the corner, I was walking back to the shelter house near the river. During the long walk home, I got thinking about the homeless people around Delhi. Last night as I dug through the garbage pit, I saw a light in a nearby window. I walked towards it and realized that it was the head-social workers office. I overheard her saying that more than a 1000 people were "sleeping rough." I also heard her saying that the weather condition was just getting worse. I couldn't listen anymore so, I walked back home.

The next morning, I decided to explore the slum region of Delhi. My feet were burning as the heat of the sun was very strong. When I reached the complicated maze of houses, I met a small little boy and even spent the entire day playing cricket with him. I had a splendid time! As it was getting late, I bid adieu to my friend and set foot back to the shelter. Unfortunately, I lost my way and ended up in a busy street. There was a sudden shot of fear and desperation in my heart. I was scared. I never liked admitting that, but I was very scared. I looked around with a frantic feeling. I kept walking forward. I walked along the pavement trying to ask people for directions. Though, I guess the sight of a filthy, dirty child wasn't all that attractive. They acted as if they couldn't see me. I gave up hope of walking to the shelter. So, I decided to take shelter somewhere along the way. The night was just getting colder and darker.  I walked through dark alleys trying to find a place to hot the sack for the night. I found a large cardboard box across the alley. As I rushed towards it, I witnessed something very touching. There was an old man sitting on the pavement with his dog, both of hem lay close to each other. My eyes began welling up with tears. The next few hours there was  bitter chill. I was hungry, scared, lonely and desperate. Actually........I felt "unloved."


My life is difficult. Very difficult. It doesn't mean that I won't try. Try to stay alive, to see another day. Last night was rough, but you know what? I got through it. The box was already occupied. It began to pour cats and dogs outside. I found shelter under a tree a few hours later. The morning was as cold as the night. I was drowsy, but I knew I had to keep moving. My feet ached so bad that I felt like I couldn't move anymore. I was already dead to myself. Eventually,I found my way back to the shelter. No one looked for me. I was invisible to everyone. I was as mentioned, unloved.

        Last night, when I was getting ready for bed, I felt something sharp pierce the back of my neck. I thought it was a fly but, did they bite so hard? The next thing I knew, I was falling, though it didn't last very long. But I didn't fall onto the hard cement like in other stories.I was thinking about that when my head landed on a fluffy, soft and comfortable pillow. Only when I looked really closely did I realize that I was sitting on a giant Marsh-mellow!

       The bed of marsh-mellows went on for miles.there was a narrow path in the middle of the beds. I walked towards it, rather cautiously. As I placed my foot upon it, everything started to go upside down and inside out. I was alarmed! I got down on my knees and shut my eyes tightly. Once I felt that all the commotion had died down, I opened my eyes slowly.

    It was magnificent. All around me was candy! I felt like a kid in a candy store......literally! There were gumdrop and marsh-mellow bushes which housed tiny little gobstopper flowers. The best part of all that was happening was that it was real! I pinched myself several times just to be sure. I also saw an enormous black and white chocolate mountain. I ran towards it and nearly collided with a gummy   bear. A talking gummy bear! I couldn't believe my eyes nor my ears! The bears were rather grumpy so I fled.

   I was afraid that one of the multi-colored bears would chase after me. As I walked down the lane, I noticed that I was walking down a sweet smelling, sugar syrup hardened bridge. I broke a piece from the edge and held it in my hands. I proceeded and found out that the ,marsh-mellow road had later diverged into a wafer road.

    The crunch of my feet against the wafer road sent caramel birds flying out of lollipop trees and chocolate animals scurrying away. I started thinking, what if I was stuck here forever? What if this was now my home? Well....I couldn't really care because I was in "candy heaven"

I walked on hoping that I could stay there forever. Unfortunately, I felt that awkward stinging sensation at the back of my neck again. I was going back home. When I opened my eyes, I was back in my bed. was it a dream? When I looked into my hand, I was still clutching on to the sugar syrup bridge piece that I had broken off earlier. It was a dream right? Or was it?
